  • Scotties Drop Close Home Contest to Covenant

    DECATUR, Ga.—Visiting Covenant was able to spin a handful of 50-50 matches in its favor to take a 6-3 win over Agnes Scott College on Thursday evening at the Byers Tennis Courts. The Scots edged the Scotties 2-1 in doubles and did enough in singles’ action to claim the win.

    DECATUR, Ga.—The Piedmont Lions were a hard team to slow down on Wednesday as they took a USA South doubleheader with Agnes Scott College at Oakhurst Park. Piedmont racked up 26 runs on 32 hits to beat the Scotties 13-1 and 13-4 to sweep the season series.

    CLEVELAND, Tenn.—Agnes Scott Softball dropped a pair of games to NAIA opponent Truett-McConnell on the Lady Bears’ Senior Day on Saturday. The Scotties fell on the wrong end of a close 2-0 game in the opener before the long ball carried the Lady Bears to a 9-0 victory in game two.

    DECATUR, Ga.—Agnes Scott Women’s Tennis claimed victory for the first time in 2018 with a dominant 9-0 effort over visiting Brevard. The Scotties started slow in both singles and doubles but found their footing to register a win without dropping a set.
  • Hawks Triumph Over Scotties in Doubleheader

    DECATUR, Ga.—Agnes Scott fell twice in USA South action to Huntingdon on Friday evening at Oakhurst Park. The Hawks’ top of the lineup was tough out all night long as Huntingdon took down the home team 11-2 in five innings before a 12-0 win in game two. The Scotties (3-13, 0-4 USA South) will look to rebound tomorrow against at Truett-McConnell beginning at 2 p.m. The Hawks moved closer to .500 at 9-11 and 2-4 respectively.
  • Stormy Petrels Get by Scotties 9-0

    DECATUR, Ga.—Oglethorpe spoiled the home 2018 home opener for Agnes Scott Women’s Tennis on Friday afternoon at the Byers Tennis Courts. The Stormy Petrels swept the lineup 9-0 becoming only the second team to do that to the Scotties this spring.

    MACON, Ga.—Agnes Scott Softball ran into its stiffest test to date in a pair of losses following a two-week break. The Belhaven Blazers came into the day having won 12 straight games and the Scotties were unable to slow them down in two defeats, 9-1 in game one and 5-4 in the series finale.
  • Scotties Hang Tough in Spring Break Defeats

    ORLANDO, Fla.—Agnes Scott Tennis started off its spring break trip to Florida with three tight losses on Sunday and Monday. Two matches came down to the final court in losses to Roger Williams (R.I.) and St. Norbert (Wis.) with a hard-fought 8-1 defeat at the hands of RPI (N.Y.) sandwiched in between. The Scotties (0-6) close out their trip on Tuesday with a match against SUNY-Geneseo at 3 p.m.

    MONTGOMERY, Ala.—Agnes Scott Tennis’ tough schedule to start the 2018 season continued on Thursday as the Scotties fell to USA South foe Huntingdon 8-1 at the George S. Gibbs Tennis Center. Senior Anastasia Bennett (Marietta, Ga.) picked up the lone win of the day for the Scotties.

    WEST POINT, Ga.—A ninth-inning rally spurred on by the bat of Alexei Young (McDonough, Ga.) helped Agnes Scott Softball earn a share of a doubleheader split with Point University on Wednesday evening. The Scotties took game one 2-1 before the Skyhawks put together a seventh-inning comeback in game two for an 8-7 walk-off victory.

    DEMOREST, Ga.—Agnes Scott Tennis suffered a 9-0 loss at the hands of Piedmont in a non-conference match on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions rolled through the doubles lineup and secured all six singles flights in straight sets to down the Scotties.

    FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.—First-year Caitlin Weaver (Jacksonville, Fla.) was named the USA South Rookie of the Week after an outstanding all-around week that led to two wins for the Agnes Scott Scotties. Weaver made two starts in the circle, earning one winning decision, while also serving as the Scotties’ best hitter for the week with eight hits in four games.
  • Heartstoppers: Scotties Pull Off Epic Comebacks to Sweep Tigers

    DECATUR, Ga.—A walk-off double by first-year Cecilia Siegel (Plantation, Fla.) helped Agnes Scott complete a sweep of Sewanee on Friday night under the lights of Oakhurst Park. The Scotties overcame deficits of at least three runs in each game to beat the Tigers 7-4 and 5-4 in a doubleheader.

    DECATUR, Ga.—Agnes Scott College saw its 2017-18 basketball season come to a close on Saturday afternoon with a tough 62-52 loss to the visiting Covenant Scots. The Scotties held a lead late in the first half, but a 10-0 run to end the frame resulted in a Covenant advantage for the remainder.

  • Braun Introduced as Head Volleyball Coach

    DECATUR, Ga.—The Agnes Scott Athletic Department and athletic director Beth Vansant are pleased to announce the hiring of Anna Braun as head coach of the Scottie volleyball program, effective immediately. Braun served as the interim head coach for the entire 2017 season after a staff departure right before the start of the campaign.

    MONTGOMERY, Ala.—Agnes Scott Women’s Basketball kept close for three quarters, but a fourth-quarter charge sent Huntingdon to a 63-48 win over the Scotties. Sophomore Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.) scored a season-high 27 points in the loss for Agnes.
  • Panthers Top Scotties at Woodruff, 52-45

    DECATUR, Ga.—A strong fourth quarter effort was not enough to bring Agnes Scott back from a double-digit deficit in a 52-45 loss to visiting LaGrange. The Scotties had to battle foul trouble for much of the game and LaGrange’s ability to knock down shots at the free throw line ultimately made the difference in the game.

    DECATUR, Ga.—Berea parlayed a big first-quarter lead into a 75-46 win over Agnes Scott in USA South women’s basketball action on Friday evening at the Woodruff Gymnasium. The Scotties received big efforts from Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.) and Jane Lado (Louisville, Ky.), but could not ultimately overcome the Mountaineers’ three-quarter court press.

    FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.—The USA South announced its preseason polls for women’s tennis on Thursday morning with Agnes Scott being placed fifth in the West Division. The Scotties were projected to finish outside of the playoff qualifiers in the conference despite a third-place finish in the West Division last spring.
  • Scotties Survive Wolves in Double Overtime

    MACON, Ga.—Annie Weimerskirch’s (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) scored five of her team-high 18 points in the second overtime of a thrilling 78-77 victory over host Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The Scotties came all the way back from a tough first quarter in which they trailed by 10 points to sweep the season series with the Wolves.

    LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.—Despite scoring a season-high 65 points, Agnes Scott Basketball could not overcome a sensational night from Covenant’s Joanna Smith in an 81-65 loss on Friday evening. Smith totaled 30 points in an outstanding matchup between her and Agnes’ Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.), who scored 23 in her own right.
  • Basketball Set to Take Over USA South Instagram

    DECATUR, Ga.—The Agnes Scott basketball program was picked by the USA South Conference to take over the conference Instagram feed for the weekend as the Scotties head to Covenant and Wesleyan on back to back days. The Scotties are the fifth winter team in the conference to get possession of the account for a weekend.
