DECATUR, Ga. - For six innings, it looked like Agnes Scott College was going to get over the hump and land their first win of the season, but a 5-run rally in the top of the 7th inning led to an extra-innings victory for Adrian College, 7-6, to open the Lauren Giddings Classic Tournament.
Adrian (8-1) opened the scoring in the 4th inning, plating one run in the top of the inning to take the early lead, but Agnes Scott (0-7) would respond with 6 unanswered runs over the next three innings to open up a 6-1 lead entering the final inning. Alyssa Millikin drove in Meghan Snipes in the bottom of the fourth, and Aimee Jennings stole home to put the Scotties up 2-1 in the 4th. With the bases loaded, Jennings would once again step up in the 5th inning, blasting a 3-run double off of the fence to extend the lead to 5-1. Alex Garcia would drive in Millikin in the 6th to finish the scoring for the Scotties.
However, in the top of the 7th, Adrian would plate one run off of starter Casey Arnold, before Rebecca Greco would step to the plate with the bases loaded, and lift a pitch from reliever Molly Baker over the left field fence at Oakhurst Park, leveling the game at 6-6.
In the 8th inning, under tiebreak rules, Adrian was able to bring home their runner who started on second base, but the Scotties could not answer in their half of the inning, leaving runners stranded on second and third after getting those runners into scoring position with no outs. Kaitlin Lock, the winning pitcher for Adrian, would account for all three outs, striking out two and getting a Scottie batter to line out back to the pitcher.
The tournament continues Saturday.
