DECATUR, Ga. - Casey Arnold struck out seven and Alex Garcia homered and drove in three runs as Agnes Scott earned its 10th win of the season with a 7-1 win over Huntingdon. The Scotties would fall in game two of the doubleheader, 5-0.
The Scotties (10-24) struck first in game one as Tiffany Cain's two-out single drove in Aimee Jennings, who tripled in the previous at-bat. In the third, the Scotties broke it open with four runs thanks in part to a pair of Huntingdon errors. With the bases loaded, Garcia lifted a fly ball into center that went off the centerfielder's glove. Alyssa Millikin and Jennings came home to score on the play to make it 3-0. With one out in the inning, Miranda Gammon and Megan Snipes had back-to-back RBI singles, making it 5-0. Huntington (20-18) got on the board in the sixth thanks to a solo homer, but ASC answered right back. With two out, Garcia cranked a two-run homer over the fence in left center, making it 7-1. That would be enough for Arnold. The hurler left for three batters in the sixth but came back to get the final six outs without allowing a run.
Game two would not go as well for the Scotties, as Huntingdon's Anna Stephens allowed just a single and a double by Cain, a fourth inning double by Arnold, and an infield hit by Megan Snipes en route to the 5-0 win.
The Scotties will return to action this Friday in the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament, hosted by Wesleyan College. The Scotties, who are the top seed, will face Finlandia in the first round.
