DECATUR, Ga. - Agnes Scott College celebrated the career of Casey Arnold between games, as they split with Great South Athletic Conference foe, Wesleyan College (Ga.). In Game 1, Molly Baker pitched a gem as the Scotties downed the Wolves, 4-1. In Game 2, the Wolves (11-29, 3-5 GSAC) got their revenge over the Scotties (7-25, 2-6 GSAC), winning by a score of 7-2 to clinch the #2 seed in this weekend's GSAC Conference Tournament.
In Game 1, a burst of offense by the Scotties in the fourth inning was all they needed, as Baker pitched a complete game on the mound, going 7 innings with 7 strikeouts and allowing only 6 hits and one run. Offensively, two long balls were the difference-makers for the Scotties, as Kayla Trumbull led off the scoring in the 4th, ripping a home run over the left field fence to give the Scotties a 1-0 lead. Three batters later, Jordyn Portis launched another long ball over the fence in left-center, scoring Christina Keyes and Arnold.
Wesleyan got off to a quick start in Game 2, scoring 4 runs in the top of the first inning, and coasting to a 7-2 win. For the Scotties, Nicole Gilkeson took the loss on the mound, as she went 6 innings and allowed 7 runs, 5 of them earned. Kristin Root homered for the Scotties in the 2nd inning.
The Scotties turn around on Monday and face off with LaGrange College at 5:00 pm and 7:00 p.m. in their final home series of the season.
