MACON, Ga. - Agnes Scott College clamped down on defense, and a 2-out RBI triple by DeAnna Fulton made the difference in a 1-0 win over #2 seeded Wesleyan College (Ga.) today in the first round of the Great South Athletic Conference tournament. Molly Baker picked up the win for the Scotties, striking out 5 and allowing only 5 hits in the contest.
The #3 seeded Scotties (8-25, 3-6 GSAC) got on the board in the third inning as Fulton drove a line drive to left field to bring home Kelsea Hunter and give the Scotties the early lead. Fulton and Jordyn Portis both had multi-hit games for the Scotties, who scattered 8 hits off of Wesleyan starter Melissa Webb. The Wolves (11-30, 3-6 GSAC) drop down to the consolation bracket and will take on #4 Mount Mary, who fell to top-seeded Salem in the second contest of the day.
The Scotties and Salem will face off at 4:30 pm for a place in the final of the double-elimination tournament. The loser of that contest will face off with the winner of the Wesleyan/Mount Mary game tomorrow morning.
