MACON, Ga. – The Agnes Scott College softball team received several awards this evening at the Great South Athletic Conference spring sports banquet, as announced by the conference office.
Headlining the awards for Agnes Scott were the team's all-conference selections. Infielders Casey Arnold and DeAnna Fulton, outfielder Kelsea Hunter, and pitcher Molly Baker all were named to the All-Conference first team.
Arnold served the Scotties in two roles this season, both as a pitcher and 2nd baseman. She had a .321 batting average, good enough for 4th on the team. Fulton led the team with a .373 batting average, and Hunter was first on the team in stolen bases with 5. Baker picked up the win in 7 of the Scotties' 8 wins this season, holding a 3.60 ERA.
In addition to the All-Conference recognition, Fulton was also named to the All-Freshman team, along with teammates Kristin Root, Jordan Josey, and Jordyn Portis. The Scotties competed this season with 13 first-years on the roster. Josey and Portis were #2 and #3 in batting average this season for the Scotties, hitting .339 and .338, respectively. Root led the team in RBIs with 16, and also tied Portis with the most home runs at 3.
Also receiving recognition on the evening were Arnold and Baker, who were named to the All-Academic Team, as well as Alex Garcia, who was awarded the conference's sportsmanship award. All-Academic team members must have a 3.25 GPA or higher, and the sportsmanship award is given to the player on each team who exemplifies the GSAC's commitment to sportsmanship and fair play.
