Scotties Fall in NCAA Regional, 8-0

TYLER, Texas - The upset-minded Agnes Scott College softball team ran into a strong pitching staff and active batting and running, as they fell to #3 ranked Texas-Tyler, 8-0, in the first round of the NCAA Regional being hosted by Texas-Tyler.  The loss drops the Scotties (10-28) into an elimination game against Texas Lutheran, who were blasted by East Texas Baptist University, 11-0, to begin the Regional featuring three top ten teams.

The Patriots (40-4) exploded for five runs in the second inning, using aggressive baserunning to contribute to their victory, as they stole 6 bases.  Agnes Scott was only able to reach base twice in the game, as Kayla Trumbull reached on a walk and on an error, but was stranded on first base both times as the Patriot pitching staff combined for a no-hitter.

The Scotties, fielding a team of 13 first-years and 2 sophomores, played strong defense throughout, and did not commit an error.  Kayla Quesenberry had a solid outing in relief, going 2.2 innings and allowing only 2 earned runs against one of the top offenses in the nation.

The Scotties will return to the field tomorrow, as they take on a Texas Luthern squad that is ranked #5 in the nation, but who suffered a blowout loss to East Texas Baptist University, leading to a rematch of the ASC Championship game between ETBU and UT-Tyler, which ETBU won to claim the tournament title of the conference.  That game will take place at 11:00 a.m.
