MARYVILLE, Tenn. - In their USA South debut, the Agnes Scott College softball team struggled at the plate, as Maryville (11-3, 2-0 USA South) shut the Scotties out in back-to-back games today, winning, 8-0, in the first game before winning, 9-0, in the second game. The Scotties (0-8, 0-2 USA South) had two players with multiple-hit afternoons, as Haley Keesler went 3-for-4 on the day, and Tatiana Santiago was 2-for4.
In the opener, Nicole Gilkeson took the loss on the mound for the Scotties, going 4.2 innings and scattering 16 hits. Morgan Brewer did the most damage for the Scots, going 3-for-3 with a triple and two home runs.
In the second contest of the day, Ashley Steverson took the loss on the mound, going 3.0 innings and allowing 7 earned runs. Keesler had a double for the Scotties in the top of the third with two outs, but Jessica Costero grounded out to end the scoring opportunity for the Scotties.
The Scotties will return to action on March 15, as they travel to Piedmont for another USA South doubleheader.
