DECATUR, Ga.—The Piedmont Lions were a hard team to slow down on Wednesday as they took a USA South doubleheader with Agnes Scott College at Oakhurst Park. Piedmont racked up 26 runs on 32 hits to beat the Scotties 13-1 and 13-4 to sweep the season series.
CLEVELAND, Tenn.—Agnes Scott Softball dropped a pair of games to NAIA opponent Truett-McConnell on the Lady Bears’ Senior Day on Saturday. The Scotties fell on the wrong end of a close 2-0 game in the opener before the long ball carried the Lady Bears to a 9-0 victory in game two.
DECATUR, Ga.—Agnes Scott fell twice in USA South action to Huntingdon on Friday evening at Oakhurst Park. The Hawks’ top of the lineup was tough out all night long as Huntingdon took down the home team 11-2 in five innings before a 12-0 win in game two.
The Scotties (3-13, 0-4 USA South) will look to rebound tomorrow against at Truett-McConnell beginning at 2 p.m. The Hawks moved closer to .500 at 9-11 and 2-4 respectively.
MACON, Ga.—Agnes Scott Softball ran into its stiffest test to date in a pair of losses following a two-week break. The Belhaven Blazers came into the day having won 12 straight games and the Scotties were unable to slow them down in two defeats, 9-1 in game one and 5-4 in the series finale.
WEST POINT, Ga.—A ninth-inning rally spurred on by the bat of Alexei Young (McDonough, Ga.) helped Agnes Scott Softball earn a share of a doubleheader split with Point University on Wednesday evening. The Scotties took game one 2-1 before the Skyhawks put together a seventh-inning comeback in game two for an 8-7 walk-off victory.
DECATUR, Ga.—A late rally in game one fell short for Agnes Scott before Ferrum was able to blast their way to a big win in game two for a sweep over the Scotties. The Panthers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the opener, but Agnes Scott threatened to tie it in the late stages before falling 3-2. Ferrum controlled the second contest from beginning to end, handing the Scotties a 10-0 defeat in six innings.
DEMOREST, Ga.—Piedmont College Softball handed Agnes Scott a pair of non-conference losses on Thursday afternoon at the Walker Athletic Complex. The Lions jumped on the Scotties with a 10-0 win in game one before finishing up with an 11-0 victory in the nightcap.
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.—First-year Caitlin Weaver (Jacksonville, Fla.) was named the USA South Rookie of the Week after an outstanding all-around week that led to two wins for the Agnes Scott Scotties. Weaver made two starts in the circle, earning one winning decision, while also serving as the Scotties’ best hitter for the week with eight hits in four games.
DECATUR, Ga.—A walk-off double by first-year Cecilia Siegel (Plantation, Fla.) helped Agnes Scott complete a sweep of Sewanee on Friday night under the lights of Oakhurst Park. The Scotties overcame deficits of at least three runs in each game to beat the Tigers 7-4 and 5-4 in a doubleheader.
DECATUR, Ga.—A pair of mid-inning rallies allowed visiting Wesleyan to spoil the season openers for Agnes Scott College Softball on Thursday evening. The Scotties jumped out to the early leads in each contest, but the Wolves battled back to win 6-2 and 5-2 at Oakhurst Field.
Agnes Scott Softball’s 2018 debut has been delayed once again due to weather. The Scotties will no longer travel to Memphis this weekend for the Rhodes tournament with inclement weather rolling into Western Tennessee on Saturday morning.
The Scotties season will now begin next Thursday when they host Wesleyan, games that were moved from February 7th. The doubleheader will begin at 5 p.m. at Oakhurst Field.
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.—The Agnes Scott Softball program was picked to finish eighth in the USA South West Division, as voted by the other coaches in the conference. The Scotties finished eighth in the division last spring.
