MARYVILLE, Tenn.—Maryville clinched the USA South West Division crown on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Agnes Scott. The Scots won game one 10-2 in six innings before tossing a no-hitter in game two for an 8-0 win.
Agnes Scott rounds out its USA South schedule with a 2-12 record and a 5-25 mark overall. Maryville improved to 23-10 and 12-2, earning them the No. 1 seed in the West in the upcoming conference tournament.
Saturday's twinbill followed a similar script to Friday's losses to Brevard.
Agnes Scott scored two runs in the top of the first to stun a Maryville team that had given up very few runs in conference play this season. Three of the first four Scotties who came to the plate reached base safely to set up a clutch two-out, two-RBI single from first-year Melia Venezia (Clover, S.C.) just inside the left-field line.
However, Maryville matched the two runs with a pair of RBI singles in the bottom half of the inning and added runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth to put the game away.
Agnes Scott would not score again on the day. Alexei Young (McDonough, Ga.) had two hits for the Scotties.
Maryville notched 14 hits in each game, led by Morgan Brewer with a total of six. She also added six RBI from the leadoff spot between the two games.
A walk and an error were the only two things to separate Casey Joliff from a perfect game for the Scots. She still managed to shut down a solid Scottie offense becoming the first to keep them out of the hit column in 2018. Agnes Scott's previous low was one coming at Brevard on Friday.
Christina White and Brewer were tough outs for Scottie pitchers all day with 12 hits and eight RBI combined.
The Scotties are off for nearly two weeks before they host Brevard in the final home games of the year on April 10. Agnes Scott is also scheduled to play at LaGrange on April 19th after the USA South Spring Festival break. The Scotties finished seventh in the division, just missing out on the postseason by one spot.
