Scotties Finish Promising Season with Losses to LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga.—Agnes Scott Softball finished out its 2018 season with a pair of non-conference losses to USA South foe LaGrange on Thursday evening. The Panthers held off the Scotties 7-3 in game one before overcoming a first-inning deficit for a 16-2 triumph on the series finale.

The Scotties conclude their campaign at 5-29, while LaGrange moves to 15-25 entering its final series.

As they did in their series in Decatur two weeks ago, Agnes Scott had troubles containing leadoff hitter Carolyn Harkness, who went 7-for-8 with seven runs scored between the two games. However, unlike the first meeting between the two sides other Panthers got involved in the action. LaGrange piled up a 27-10 advantage in hits over the Scotties and used 11 errors committed by the visitors to secure a doubleheader sweep.

The Scotties held their only lead of the day with two runs in the top of the first of game two, but the Panthers scored 15 runs between the third and fourth innings to put plenty of distance between them.

Junior Jessica Costero (Miami, Fla.) led the Scotties in hitting on the final day of the season with four base hits and two runs scored.

Only one of the runs given up by rookie Caitlin Weaver (Jacksonville, Fla.) in game one was earned.

The Scotties finish the year with marked improvement across the board. They improved their batting average by nearly 80 points, while also scoring nearly 70 more runs in 2018. Agnes also won five games in 2018, including its first two conference games since joining the USA South Conference before the 2016-17 academic year.

The team also provided its first two USA South All-Conference team members in first-year's Tiara White (Sinton, Texas) and Cecilia Siegel (Plantation, Fla.).
