LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Tenn. - The Agnes Scott College basketball team put up a valiant effort on the road today, before falling to a spirited Covenant College Crusaders team, 82-72.
Playing without their top scorer and rebounder, Kisha Simpson, the Scotties (4-12) were still able to put together an impressive game against the Crusaders (3-19), in a game that featured several lead changes.
The first half of play was a back and forth affair, with the Scotties holding their largest lead of the game at 25-17. The Crusaders would claw their way back into the half to eventually trail by only one at the half, 30-29.
The second half was much of the same, with the Crusaders slowly building their lead behind 21 points from Jessica Bell, leading by 8 with 3:34 to go in regulation, before the Scotties would fight back to send the game into overtime with the score tied at 66.
In the overtime, the depth of the Crusader bench proved too difficult for the Scotties, who played only seven players in the contest, and the home team cruised to a ten-point win in the extra period.
Shavonne Orr would lead all scorers with 24 points, including going 5 for 7 from long distance in the contest. Care Bacon and Brittaney Howard would each pitch in 13 in the losing effort, and Bacon would also lead the Scotties with 10 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Scotties will return to the road on Wednesday, February 11, when they face off with GSAC foe Wesleyan College at 6:00 p.m.
