FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - For the third time this season, Agnes Scott College's Garis Grant has been recognized as the USA South Athletic Conference's Rookie of the Week in the sport of women's basketball.
The Charleston, South Carolina first-year forward averaged a double-double of 21.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in an 0-2 week versus USA South competition for the Scotties. She also added 5.0 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per contest and notched a double-double in each game. In a 61-44 loss at Maryville, Grant tallied 23 points, ten rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal. In a 57-44 defeat at Covenant, Grant totaled 21 points, 15 rebounds, a career-high eight blocks, two steals and one assist. Grant was also recognized as the conference's Rookie of the Week for the week of Nov. 14-20, 2016. Grant also was named the Player of the Week during the week of January 9-15, 2017, a week when she was also named the United States Basketball Writer's Association National Player of the Week. Grant currently averages 17.5 points per game, 11.2 rebounds per game, and 1.7 blocks per game. She leads the conference in rebounds per game, is 3rd in scoring, and sits in 5th for blocks per game.
