Tornados Push Past Scotties 57-43

BREVARD, N.C.—The Brevard Tornados built up a 30-17 halftime lead and held on for a 57-43 over Agnes Scott in USA South women's basketball play. The Scotties continued their trend of strong second halves, but could not overcome a slow start on the road.

Agnes Scott now sits at 1-12 this season, while Brevard improves to 5-5. The Tornados are currently playing a USA South schedule, but games do not count as the school transitions into Division III.

Brevard opened up a big lead after just 10 minutes by outscoring Agnes Scott 17-6 in the first quarter. The Scotties struggled to find their footing from the floor, making just one basket from the field—a three from Natasha Banks (Douglasville, Ga.).

The Tornados built up a lead as large as 24 points, but Agnes' stellar fourth-quarter effort included a 10-0 run to make things close.

The Scotties were led in scoring by Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.) with 16, but the sophomore finished with a season-low six boards. She still altered three shots to keep pace in the top 10 in the category nationally. Agnes won the rebound battle for the eighth time this season, 44-38. Jahmeelah Nash-Fuller (New York, N.Y.) led the team for the first time this year with nine.

Agnes Scott returns home on Tuesday to face in-state rival Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m. The Scotties will be hosting Welcome Back Whiteout for fans before and during the game.
