DECATUR, Ga. - The Agnes Scott women's soccer team opened their Great South Athletic Conference season with a loss to defending champion, Salem College, 5-0. The Spirits (10-2-0) used two goals apiece by Tarryn Bundy and Becky Irvin, and a final one off the foot of Nataly Mojica, to hand the Scotties (2-6-0) the defeat.
Salem scored early in the first half to put the home team on the defensive, after Irvin took a penalty kick after a foul was called on the Scotties inside the box. Bundy would set up Irvin for her second goal at the 29 minute mark, then get an unassisted goal of her own in the 36th minute. The second half went scoreless until Bundy drove a ball past Scottie goalkeeper Sydney Holstad in the 75th minute, and Mojica finished off the scoring on a free kick shortly before the end of the game.
Holstad finished with 13 saves for the Scotties, while the home team was held to two shots on goal for the contest. Salem outshot Agnes Scott, 28-6.
The Scotties will return to action on Tuesday, October 7, as they travel to LaGrange for a 7:00 p.m. match.
