LAGRANGE, Ga. - The Agnes Scott College women's soccer team broke a 0-0 tie in the 57th minute on a goal by Helene Somda to down LaGrange College (5-8-0) in a road match this evening, 1-0. The defensive battle between the two squads saw the Scotties (3-6-0) outshoot the home team, 10-7, with 8 of the Scotties shots being on target.
Maddie Shaul drove the ball at LaGrange goalkeeper Carly Farrow, who was unable to control the ball, and Somda took advantage, driving the ball into the back of the net for the lone score of the game. Scottie goalkeeper Ivy MacIntyre notched the win, saving 4 shots.
"I was happy with the win today," commented Scottie head coach Rosemary Davis. "We really needed this after last week's results, and I think the team stepped up and showed they were ready to compete."
First year Morgan Hoel had two shots on goal, to go along with 3 from Shaul and 2 from Somda, including the game-winner. Camila Hernandez had the other shot-on-goal for Agnes Scott, who will return to their home field on Saturday, October 11 for a Great South Athletic Conference showdown with Wesleyan College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. and admission to the public is free.
