DECATUR, Ga. - The Agnes Scott women's soccer team (4-6, 1-1 GSAC) won their second straight match by shutout today at Gellerstedt Field, 5-0, over Great South Athletic Conference foe, Wesleyan College (1-9, 0-2 GSAC).
The afternoon contest celebrated the careers of three senior players on the Scottie roster, Helene Somda, Maddie Shaul and Staci Pereira. The senior trio would have reason to celebrate, as Shaul had one goal, and Somda scored twice for the Scotties, who jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and never looked back.
The contest was interrupted briefly in the second half for lightning, with the Scotties having already amassed their season-high five goals. Late in the game, Pereira almost made it a perfect day for the seniors, stealing the ball at midfield and driving the rest of the way down the field on a breakaway, only to have her shot stopped by the Wesleyan goalkeeper.
"This class of seniors is very special," indicated head coach Rosemary Davis. "All three of them are excellent role models for our young women here at Agnes Scott College. It was a nice game where things were really coming together for us."
Also contributing to the scoring were first year Morgan Hoel, and junior Stephanie Hicks, who scored her first goal of the season. Ivy MacIntyre and Sydney Holstad split time in goal to record the win in goal for the Scotties.
The Scotties return to the field on Tuesday when they travel to Sewanee for a 7:00 p.m. EST match.
