DECATUR, Ga. - Agnes Scott College's soccer team kicked off their season with a convincing win this afternoon against Oglethorpe University (0-1-0), downing the Stormy Petrels by a score of 3-1. Sarah Fisher scored two goals and sophomore Zoey Perchaluk also added a goal for the Scotties (1-0-0).
The game got off to a quick start, as the Scotties' first possession resulted in a shot from the right side from Fisher, which was misplayed by the Oglethorpe defense and found it's way into the goal for a 1-0 lead, just 40 seconds into the contest. The score would remain the same until halftime, as Iara Moran made seven saves for the Scotties to prevent the Stormy Petrels from evening the score.
In the second half, the Scotties abandoned their defensive-minded play for a more aggressive approach, and it paid dividends for the home team, as they managed 14 shots in the second stanza. In the 64th minute, Perchaluk took a perfect cross from the left side from Aina Stratton and drove it into the back of the goal to put the Scotties up, 2-0. Fisher would follow six minutes later with a left footed blast into the upper left corner of the goal, extending the lead to 3 goals before the shutout was avoided by Oglethorpe in the 87th minute, as Kayla Trice scored from the left side, squeezing a close shot past Moran in heavy traffic.
The Scotties will have a quick turnaround, as they return to the field on Saturday, September 3, and face off with Hollins University. The match is scheduled to kick off at 11:00 a.m. on the campus of the Scotties.
