MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Agnes Scott College soccer team continued their strong start to the 2016 season by notching a historic win over Huntingdon College, 1-0, in their first-ever USA South Athletic Conference contest. Nia Coates scored early in the second half of play, and clutch goalkeeping by Iara Moran kept the Hawks (1-2-1, 0-1-0 USA South) off the board.
For the Scotties (3-1, 1-0 USA South), the first half was one in which they controlled possession throughout, notching 10 shots to only one for the Hawks, but they were unable to get their shots on target, as they had 4 shots on goal out of 16 taken for the contest. The second half would be a more even affair, but Coates' shot at 52:11 found the back of the net, and the Scotties would hold on for their first USA South win, in their first-ever attempt.
The team has a short turnaround, as they travel to LaGrange on Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. EST contest against the Panthers (1-4-1, 0-1 USA South), who were stunned by fellow USA South newcomer, Wesleyan College, who downed them 2-0 on Saturday.
