MARYVILLE, Tenn. - In their first-ever appearance in the USA South Conference Tournament, Agnes Scott's soccer team was taken down by the powerful offense of Maryville College, dropping their first-round contest, 3-0. The Scots (10-7-1, 9-4-1 USA South) defeated the Scotties (7-10-1, 5-8-1 USA South) for the third time this season, and advanced to play top-seeded Salem College on Saturday.
Maryville was on the offensive throughout the contest, outshooting the Scotties, 31-5, with 17 of those shots being on target. Agnes Scott goalkeeper Iara Moran made a valiant effort in goal, making 14 saves in the contest, but goals from Natasha Enrique (20th minute), Casey Gentile (48th) and Gabby Billstrom (53rd) put the game out of reach.
The match marks the end of the Scotties' first season in the USA South. It was the final contest for graduating players Sarah Fisher, Ivy MacIntyre, and Catherine Pratt. The Scotties look to the future, as they return 10 of 11 starters from this year's successful squad.
