Scotties Dance Past Wolves, 2-1

MACON, Ga.—Agnes Scott Soccer returned to the win column with a 2-1 triumph at Wesleyan on Wednesday evening. The Scotties scored twice in an 18-minute stretch, spanning over both halves, and held off a late rally to secure their second win of the season.

Both offenses were able to find pockets in their attacking thirds to force the opposing defense to stay on their toes. Agnes Scott had plenty of quality opportunities early on the contest with four corners in the first half, but keeper Carlee Dykes made a handful of key stops to keep the game scoreless.

Sophomore Jasmine Young (Albany, Ga.) entered the game in the 20th minute and instantly became a thorn in the side of the Wolves for the remainder of the evening. Young's speed created mismatches against the Wolves' defense and ultimately led to the first goal of the game just before the halftime break.

With just two minutes remaining in the period, junior Zoey Perchaluk (Fort Erie, Ont.) sent a pass to the feet of young just inside the 18-yard box. The sophomore obliged with an in-stride one-timer past Dykes for the 1-0 halftime lead.

Senior Erin Innis (Blairsville, Ga.) scored her first point of the season in the 61st minute with Young providing the service on a point-blank chance.

Agnes' two-goal lead didn't last long as a tackle in the box led to a penalty kick for the Wolves in the 64th minute. Fetlework Blitch finished off the attempt past Iara Moran (Marietta, Ga.), but that would be the home sides final score of the game.

The Scotties continued to press for some extra cushion, but several attempts were either saved or hit the post to keep it a one-goal game.

Moran made four saves and earned her first win in net this season.

The Scotties will look to continue the positive mojo when they host Berea on Saturday at 1 p.m. Agnes Scott improved to 2-11-1 overall, but more importantly 2-3 in the USA South. Berea comes into town sporting a 1-10 record and 1-3 in conference action.

Agnes Scott can officially clinch a postseason appearance on Saturday with a win or draw.
