SEWANEE, Tenn.—A successful weekend at the ITA South Regional tournament was cut short by a mid-afternoon thunderstorm.
Sophomore Lizzy Engsberg (Atlanta, Ga.) was the big winner of the weekend for the Scotties, continuing her stellar play on day two of the regional event. After dropping a close match to regional power Sewanee in the opener on Friday, Engsberg handled business in the first round of the consolation bracket to set up a showdown with Oglethorpe.
Engsberg matched up with one of the two players who knocked Taylor Lee (Alpharetta, Ga.) and her from the Atlantic doubles draw late on Friday night. With a chance at revenge on the brain, Engsberg battled to the tune of a 6-4, 7-5 triumph over Elizabeth Bielicki (Duluth, Ga.). The sophomore trailed 5-2 in the second set, but settled into a groove to rally off five straight games and four set points in the process.
Deep into the Atlantic consolation draw, Engsberg took the first set over Lisette Phillips (Duluth, Ga.) of Oglethorpe before play was halted due to lightning and never resumed.
The Scotties finished with weekend with five wins.
