MONTGOMERY, Ala.—Agnes Scott Tennis' tough schedule to start the 2018 season continued on Thursday as the Scotties fell to USA South foe Huntingdon 8-1 at the George S. Gibbs Tennis Center. Senior Anastasia Bennett (Marietta, Ga.) picked up the lone win of the day for the Scotties.
Huntingdon set the tone early with comfortable wins at first and third doubles, 8-2 and 8-4 respectively. The match at second doubles was a back-and-forth affair, but the ASC duo of Jasmine Keiler (Newnan, Ga.) got down a break toward the end of the match, which ultimately let the Hawks pull it out by a score of 9-7.
The Scotties had a better showing on Thursday in singles' action with several close sets at the top and bottom of the lineup, but five of six were unable to win a set in the match. Bennett was a bright spot for the visitors, taking the first set from Zoya Robinson 6-2 before Robinson fought back to win the second set 6-4. Bennett was able to refocus and outlast Robinson 10-6 in the third-set super tiebreaker to claim a point for the Scotties in the overall match box.
Agnes Scott (0-3) has the next 10 days off before heading down to Orlando, Florida for a four-match schedule during Spring Break. The Scotties will take on Roger Williams (R.I.), St. Norbert (Minn.), RPI (N.Y.) and SUNY-Geneseo (N.Y.) during their stay in the Sunshine State beginning on March 11.
