DECATUR, Ga.—Agnes Scott Women's Tennis claimed victory for the first time in 2018 with a dominant 9-0 effort over visiting Brevard. The Scotties started slow in both singles and doubles but found their footing to register a win without dropping a set.
The Scotties move to 1-8 this season and will head right back to Brevard for a rematch on Tuesday. The Tornados are now 2-5 this season.
Brevard came out with an aggressive gameplan on all three courts, but once the Scotties were able to settle into a groove they never looked back. The third doubles duo of Jasmine Keiler (Newnan, Ga.) and Felicia Jacques (Atlanta, Ga.) picked up their third win of the season with an 8-1 results. Seniors Anastasia Bennett (Marietta, Ga.) and Camille Wilson (Cincinnati, Ohio) fell behind 2-1 early at the second flight, but rallied off seven straight games to down their opponent.
The Tornados fought back in the first court, overcoming a 7-3 deficit to tie the match at seven all. Taylor Lee (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Lizzy Engsberg (Atlanta, Ga.) dug deep to win the final two games of the match, giving Agnes Scott a 3-0 lead overall.
Agnes Scott did not slow down in singles play as Bennett won 6-0, 6-1 to bring the Scotties within a point.
After a couple of 5-4 losses that came down to the final court in Florida, first-year Jacy Pippin (Atlanta, Ga.) left no doubt with a 6-1, 6-1 win to clinch overall victory for the Scotties.
The rest of the lineup followed suit to sweep the Tornados.
Engsberg and Lee both had to outlast their opponents in the first set 6-4, before cruising 6-0 in the second frames. Keiler took care of business with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the fifth spot, while Wilson wrapped things up with a 6-3, 6-3 result at four.
