LAGRANGE, Ga.—Senior Camille Wilson (Cincinnati, Ohio) won her career-best ninth straight match, but none more important than the 7-5, 7-5 result to break a four-all tie and send Agnes Scott Tennis back to the USA South postseason. Wilson ensured the Scotties fourth place in the West Division with the clutch moment.
Agnes Scott's persistence over the final week of the season paid off as the Scotties quickly turned a 2-11 overall mark and winless start in USA South play to 6-11 and 4-3 respectively. The Scotties went 4-0 over the final eight days of the regular season.
LaGrange's chances at a postseason bid were dashed as they finish 3-4 in the USA South. The Panthers still have two regular-season matches remaining with a 9-9 record heading into them.
Agnes Scott took two of three doubles matches to grab the early lead, including a pivotal 8-4 showdown at the two spot. ASC's Jasmine Keiler (Newnan, Ga.) and Felicia Jacques (Atlanta, Ga.) combined to win their sixth consecutive match at the third flight, 8-3. The two are undefeated in conference play this year.
In single's action, the two programs split quick matches at one, two, three and six. The Scotties were able to take the second and third flights as Lizzy Engsberg (Atlanta, Ga.) finished off Liz Minck 6-1, 6-1 while Anastasia Bennett (Marietta, Ga.) took care of business at 6-0, 6-0.
LaGrange's Nicole Phillips overcame a big deficit in the second set to force a third before ultimately overtaking Keiler to even the match a four apiece.
Wilson returned the favor by edged Ali Herring in both sets to send the Scotties to the conference tournament.
