DECATUR, Ga. - The Agnes Scott volleyball team fought off a spirited charge from the visiting Toccoa Falls Eagles (6-11), eventually downing the visitors in four sets (25-21, 25-23, 24-26, 29-27). Lauren Aikens and Bonnie Derks led the Scotties (5-10) with 13 and 12 kills respectively, while Paige LaMore was efficient in registering 6 kills with a .625 hitting percentage.
The first two sets were both marked by early leads for the visiting team, as Toccoa Falls raced out to a 10-4 lead in the first set, and a 9-4 lead in the second before the Scotties staged comebacks in each. The third set was a mirror of the first two sets, with the Scotties going ahead 13-8 before the Eagles clawed their way back and closed out the set on a service ace by Rosemarie Buzzy.
The fourth and final set was a back and forth affair marked by scrappy defense from the visiting team, as well as some powerful hitting from the Scotties. However, the Scotties fought off five set points, including fighting back from a 24-21 deficit, and closed it out when Kaitlin Weidner, who registered 16 kills to lead all players, committed a hitting error for the Eagles.
Defensively, the Scotties were led by Shelli Sherman, who registered 22 digs, and Natali Rendon, who had 15 to go along with 9 kills on the evening. Junior setter Shakirah Dodson had 39 assists and 10 digs, and First Year Celeste Crowley registered 11 digs to aid in the effort.
The Scotties will have one day off before returning to the court to face off with GSAC Conference rival Wesleyan College, as they hit the road for a noon matchup on Saturday, October 4.
Paige LaMore hit for a .625 percentage with 6 kills off the bench for the Scotties in their 3-1 win tonight over Toccoa Falls College.
