MACON, Ga. - The Agnes Scott College volleyball team stretched their winning streak to three matches with a comprehensive 3-0 victory today over the Wesleyan Wolves (1-9, 0-2 Great South Athletic Conference). Senior Lauren Aikens led the Scotties with 11 kills, as the Scotties (6-10, 1-1 GSAC) evened their conference record at 1-1 with the straight set victory (25-23, 25-12, 25-20).
"This was a great team effort tonight," commented Agnes Scott head coach Catherine Geerlings, "and I am very proud of everyone who contributed to this evening's win. It was great to see us playing as a team."
Aikens, who played in only the first game and a half, had 8 kills in the opening set to lead the Scotties to the close 25-23 win. The Wolves went ahead 14-11 in the set, with Diamond Hudson leading the way, finishing the match with 15 kills on the evening to lead all players. The Scotties would fight back, however, as Lexus Travis and Natali Rendon would have important kills down the stretch to put the opening set out of reach.
The second set was a more straightforward affair, with Travis and Rendon stepping up the attack with 5 kills apiece. First year players Chari Mayes and Anastasia Bennett would put down the final two kills of the set to help the Scotties to a 25-12 win.
The final set was once again a model of consistency, as the Scotties would use kills from 7 different players in the set, including setter Shakirah Dodson, who registered all three of her kills in the final set, to go along with 29 assists and 11 digs. Senior libero Shelli Sherman once again led the team in digs with 23.
The Scotties will look to continue their winning streak on Tuesday, October 7 at 7:00 p.m. as they host Covenant College. Admission is free to the public.
