WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Agnes Scott College volleyball season came to an end this afternoon as the #2 Scotties (9-18) fell to #3 Finlandia (13-27) by a score of 3-1 (12-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16) in the Great South Athletic Conference semifinals. Salem College secured the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament later in the evening with a straight-set win over Finlandia.
In the Scotties' semifinal match, the first game was all Scotties, led by senior Lauren Aikens, who had 4 of her match-high 13 kills in the set. Errors, however, would creep into the Scotties' game, with 14 each of service and service receiving errors, while the Lions relied on strong serving to keep the Scotties off-balance.
For the Scotties, Aikens would finish with 13 kills, along with 3 solo blocks and 3 block assists. Senior libero Shelli Sherman finished with 27 digs to go along with 4 service aces and 2 kills. Setter Shakirah Dodson contributed 26 assists on the day.
The match marked the final matches for Aikens and Sherman, as well as junior Destiny Dawkins, who will be enrolling in nursing school in Agnes Scott's 3-2 program with Emory.
