Thornton and Scotties Dominant in Debut

DECATUR, Ga. - First-year head coach Bailey Thornton made a successful debut on Thursday evening, leading the Agnes Scott College volleyball team to a 3-0 win over the visiting Toccoa Falls College Eagles (1-2).  With the win, the Scotties (1-0) get their season off to a winning start for the second straight season, having also taken down the Eagles in last year's opener.

The Scotties used a balanced attack, and a consistent effort from junior setter Anna Tomkins, to roll past Toccoa Falls.  Tomkins finished the game with 28 assists, 5 service aces, 5 kills and 6 digs. Leading the way offensively in kills for the Scotties were Bonnie Derks (10), Paige Heck (7) and Kayleigh McCrary (7).

Defensively for the Scotties, Bella Kammerer and Morgan Pearson both logged 8 digs, while Haley Payne pitched in with 7, and Adriana Figueroa had 4, all in the third set.

The Scotties return to action on Saturday, as they face off with Hollins University at Noon, followed by a 4:00 p.m. tilt with Wesleyan College (Ga.).
