DECATUR, Ga. - The hot start to the Agnes Scott College volleyball team's season continued on Saturday, as the hosts of a tri-match with Hollins (1-1) and Wesleyan (0-2) rolled past their guests in straight sets in the comfortable confines of Woodruff Gymnasium. The Scotties move to 3-0, and have now won all nine sets they have played this season.
In the match against Hollins, Agnes Scott dominated play in the first and third sets, but were given a stiff test by Hollins in the second. Paige Heck led the way offensively for the Scotties, as she logged 10 kills. Teammate Bonnie Derks added a consistent effort, as she added 5 kills, 5 digs, and 3 aces. Setter Anna Tomkins dished out 17 assists, to go along with a team-high 8 services aces for the match. Scottie libero Bella Kammerer pitched in to the effort with 11 digs. The Scotties would win the match, 25-7, 25-20, and 25-10.
In the second match of the day for the Scotties, several players served up a storm, as they bombed in 25 service aces against the Wolves of Wesleyan College. Tomkins contributed 5 more aces in this match, as did first-year setter Savannah Laney. Heck contributed 4 aces to go along with 6 kills, and junior Resa Knott had the golden hand for the match, logging 3 aces and hitting a perfect 5-for-5 on attacks. Tomkins led the way with assists and digs, as she had 14 and 6, respectively. The Scotties rolled to a 25-5, 25-11, 25-3 win.
The Scotties will return to action on the weekend of September 16, as they travel to Montgomery, Alabama to take part in the Huntingdon College Invitational. They are set to face off against Faulkner and Huntingdon on the 16th, followed by matches against Pensacola Christian and LaGrange on the 17th.
