Scotties Settle For Volleyball Split

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - For the second straight day, the Agnes Scott College volleyball team split USA South conference matches, hosted by Huntingdon College, to begin their first season in the conference with a 2-2 record.

In the opening contest, the Scotties were dominant against Mary Baldwin, taking out the Fighting Squirrels (3-11, 0-4 USA South) in straight sets (25-17, 25-16, 25-21). Bonnie Derks was the only player on either squad to register double digits in kills, putting down 10 for the Scotties (7-5, 2-2 USA South). Anna Tomkins and Bella Kammerer had 15 and 14 assists, respectively, and Haley Payne registered 13 digs to lead all players.

In the second match of the day, the Scotties struggled with the serve of Ferrum College (5-11, 1-3 USA South), committing 12 service return errors throughout the 4 set match. After taking the first set of the match, the Scotties dropped three close sets to fall, 3-1 (22-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-18). Derks and Paige Heck led the way offensively with 12 kills apiece, while Tomkins registered a double-double, logging 24 assists and 12 digs. Derks also recorded a double-double by adding 15 digs. Payne led all players with 33 digs on defense.

The Scotties will be on the road once again next week, as they travel north to face off with Greensboro, Methodist, Averett and William Peace.
