DECATUR, Ga. - On a stellar night for Agnes Scott volleyball, the Scotties (12-13) made the most of a double-header, taking out LaGrange (18-11) in straight sets, before dominating Rust College (0-12) in the nightcap. LaGrange also played Rust in between the two matches, and downed the Lady Bearcats, 3-0, as well.
Just earlier in the week, the Panthers and Scotties had faced off, with the Panthers winning in straight sets at their campus. However, strong hitting from Paige Heck and Morgan Pearson, as well as pinpoint accuracy from setter Anna Tomkins proved the difference, as the Scotties rolled, 25-23, 25-16, 25-19. Heck led all players with 16 kills, while Pearson added 12. Tomkins finished with 36 assists and 3 kills of her own. Bella Kammerer had 19 digs on defense, and middle blocker Resa Knott had 5 kills and was responsible for 3 block assists.
In the second match for the Scotties, Rust struggled to handle the power of the Scotties, as the home team rolled to the 25-10, 25-2, 25-7 win. Bonnie Derks had 8 kills for the Scotties, while Savannah Laney logged 12 assists, and Adriana Figueroa led the Scottie defense with 4 digs and 2 service aces. Kammerer contributed 10 assists and a team-high 5 service aces.
The Scotties, who currently sit in a tie for 5th place in the USA South's West Division, have two regular season contests remaining, as they look to solidify their chances for a postseason berth. They travel to league-leader, Covenant College on Wednesday, October 26, before finishing out their regular season on Saturday, October 29, against Piedmont College.
