MOUNT VERNON, Ga.—Agnes Scott Volleyball completed a season sweep of Brewton-Parker College on Thursday night, besting the Barons in four sets. The Scotties and Barons were tied after two sets, but the visitors were able to win comfortably in the third before outlasting the home side in a marathon fourth. ASC won overall 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 33-31.
The Scotties improve to 3-4 this season entering their final week of full non-conference action. Agnes will head to Salem in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for a tri-match with the Spirits and Johnson & Wales (N.C.) on Saturday.
Thursday's second half of a home-and-home series between the two schools was close from beginning to end. While the Scottie offense was not as sharp as it was in the first meeting in Decatur a week previous, Agnes ground out points in big moments to win the four sets as opposed to the five it took earlier.
The Barons put up big numbers across the board, including hitting .181 as a team for the match and placing three hitters with double-digit kills. Agnes Scott's top mark individually was seven.
However, Brewton-Parker was never able to put large runs together due to 25 service errors spread throughout the match compared to only six committed by the Scotties. Those miscues allowed the Scotties to hang around in tight sets and ultimately the visitors were able to finish the match off for the series sweep.
Bonnie Derks (Sylva, N.C.) led the Scotties with nine points on seven kills and a pair of aces. Anna Tomkins (Chapel Hill, N.C.) had another solid outing with 27 assists and mixed things up with four kills. Bella Kammerer (Mount Sterling, Ky.) and Derks paced the defensive effort with a combined 31 digs.
