The Agnes Scott cross country team finished 13th this morning at the Maryville College Mountain Challenge 6k in Tennessee. Waking up to a shock of cold weather turned into perfect running conditions for the women as they completed their fourth race of the season.
Junior Ashly Sutherland of Converse College took the individual title with a time of 24:07. Converse ended up winning the women's race followed by Berry College and Covenant College.
For Agnes Scott, senior Giulia Ghezzi continued to lead the Scotties with a time of 30:27, good for 56th place. Junior Kelcie Evans came in 75th place and second for Agnes Scott with a time of 32:22. Juniors Morgan Lucarelli and Elisabeth Taylor were close behind with times of 33:13 and 33:26. Rounding out the top six for Agnes Scott were Lizzie Booher, 35:56, and Karmen Williams 36:25.
"The team ran well today, but I'm always looking for improvement. The next six weeks, between now and Region, is an opportunity for us to improve both endurance and speed which will result in faster times and better placement" commented head coach Mary Chind.
Agnes Scott will race again on November 15th at the NCAA Division III Regional Championships hosted by Berry College in Rome, Ga.
Junior Elisabeth Taylor has improved at every race this year, dropping six minutes off of her 6k time since September 6th.
